The Team House serves as a headquarters and social gathering space for the U.S. Army Special Forces Association Chapter LX and the Tampa Green Beret Association. The 6,045 SF veteran-owned facility is a symbolic gateway to nearby MacDill Air Force Base (home of U.S. Central Command and SOCOM). The large community room and “Underground Tavern” bar can also be rented out as an event venue for meetings, banquets, receptions, education, and training for both the military and civilians. The canopy at the entry was inspired by steerable parachutes used by airborne Special Operations forces. The shield-shaped banners in the lobby represent each of the seven currently active Special Forces Groups, and these emblems called “flashes” are worn on the berets of the Special Forces soldiers assigned to that Group. The 12 columns are a symbolic reference to the 12-man Operational Detachment Alpha (“ODA”) teams most recently cinematically chronicled in the movie “12 Strong,” which featured the heroic actions of ODA 595, the “Horse Soldiers” who led the first clandestine mission in Afghanistan following 9/11.
